Homecoming 2010
Grandview Homecoming, July 29-August 2, started for some of us in September of 2009. It was at that time the "beginnings" started. Executives nominated, ideas created, committees formed. Past ideas thrown out and new ones planned and nurtured.
Grandview Homecoming Committee wanted to make this years Homecoming the year to promote both the Town and RM of Grandview. We want to make this event as interesting and diversified as possible.
The events planned are distinctly different from each other in order to attract a wide range of people to our town.
The weekend starts out with a Monster Bingo on Thursday Night. Prizes are cash from $500 to $1000. The proceeds earned from this event will go towards a much needed new roof on the GACC Arena.
Friday morning kicks off with a Pancake Breakfast. A Photo Scavenger Hunt, Nimble Thimbles Quilt Display, United Church Silent Auction, Grandview Artist Art Display, Beer Gardens, Baseball, Softball and Horseshoes are all planned during the day. There will be a Floral Competition and Garden Tours by horse and wagon offered.
"Main Street Vendors and Fair" will be running Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This event has been opened to any vendor that wants to show their wares, whether they are direct sales, a home based or a retail business. If they can read tarot cards, are into Astrology, Numerology or Fortune Telling, this event is for them to strut their stuff.
For those that went to school here, there is a "by invite only" dinner and dance. If you are not invited, don't worry, there is a BBQ supper and Street Dance on Main Street for you.
Saturday morning starts off with a Pancake Breakfast and Town wide Garage Sales. There is a legacy Run, Nimble Thimbles Quilt Display, United Church Silent Auction, Old Tyme Bingo, Beer Gardens, Baseball, Softball, Horseshoes and Children's entertainment are planned as part of the activities for the day.
On Main Street, all day Saturday, we will be offering "Parklands Got Talent". All those new and aspiring singers and entertainers can get up on stage and compete for the top prize.
"Grandview's 1st Settlers Re-enactment and Pow Wow will be held at the Old Mill Site. Complete with 1900 store fronts, horse and wagons and turn of the century costumes. This live play will delight everyone of any age group.
A Pork Supper (these proceeds will go for New Hall Kitchen Equipment) which will be followed by the Homecoming Parade. The night finishes up with the Kinsmen Dance or the Old Tyme Dance for those who like to save their eardrums.
Sunday morning starts off with a Pancake Breakfast, followed by a Church Service, Beer Gardens, Baseball, Softball, Horseshoes and Children's Entertainment are activities planned for the day.
Museum Day is at the Watson Crossley Museum, you will be able to visit Grandviews past. A variety of entertainment will continue throughout the day, ending with a Threshing Demonstration.
The 3rd Annual Farmers Duo Challenge, will challenge both the city folk and the locals to compete and try their skills against each other. It will be a fun filled competition.
There will be a Blue Plate Supper to fill your tummy before heading off to the Family Dance. Adazzling show of Fireworks will finish up the evening.
Monday morning says goodbye to all our visitors with a Fairwell Pancake Breakfast.
We, the Homecoming Committee, hope that this introduction to our weekend will entice you to come out and experience our small town life in Grandview.
